The 12u Hurricanes finished the first tournament weekend of the spring with a perfect 4-0 record, including an exciting 4-3 shootout Gold Medal Championship victory over the Manitoba North Stars. The 'Canes now regroup for a busy upcoming 3 game exhibition weekend with the '08 MB Elite Boys and the '07 Chiefs Boys.
4/22/19 This past weekend saw the 12u Canes participate in the annual Amying For a Cure Showcase presented by the Wpg Falcons in support of the Mood Disorders Association of MB. The Canes went 3-0 with wins over Westman, North Stars & NRG. As a team we raised and donated $500 to the cause.
The 12u Canes played in the Drea Cup this weekend vs the '08 MB Elite boys. A tough 7-4 loss, their first of the spring. More important than the game was the cause. Thanks girls and families.
The 12u Hurricanes went 5-0 over the May long weekend, sweeping the Independent Classic in Minneapolis. The gold medal game saw the stiffest competition of the weekend. The 'Canes were able to rise to the challenge and pick up a 5-2 hardware clinching win vs the Northern Storm.
After a double OT win in the Sunday's Semi-Final vs the Warriors, the 12u Hurricanes met the MB Falcons in a game 1 rematch as part of the championship final of the Mustangs Challenge Tournament. For the second time on Sunday, the 'Canes pulled out the win with a 5-4 2OT result.
Entering the NAHC, the 12u Canes hadn't lost to another female team all spring. Knowing the Classic would be their biggest challenge, they didn't enter over confident or unaware of those also entered. The Canes got out to a 2-0 round robin record with wins over MN Elite and the Sask Grrrowl. That was followed by an uncharacteristic 2 game losing streak (Terrebone & Sask Xcel). Considering, they still qualified for the semi finals, drawing a 1v4 match up with BC Prep. The Canes held a 2 goal lead in the second but a see saw, quality hockey game ended up going BC's way. The Hurricanes regrouped for a 4-0 Bronze Medal win vs Terrebone. Great season, have a great summer.
